*Now the generation of Christ was in this wise. When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child, of the Holy Ghost. Whereupon Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing publicly to expose her, was minded to put her away privately. But while he thought on these things, behold the angel of the Lord appeared to him in his sleep, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her, is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son: and thou shalt call his name JESUS. For he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which the Lord spoke by the prophet, saying: Behold a virgin shall be with child, and bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. And Joseph rising up from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took unto him his wife. And he knew her not till she brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS. Glory be to God forever.

أَمَّا مِيلاَدُ يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ فَكَانَ هكَذَا: لَمَّا كَانَتْ مَرْيَمُ أُمُّهُ مَخْطُوبَةً لِيُوسُفَ، قَبْلَ أَنْ يَجْتَمِعَا، وُجِدَتْ حُبْلَى مِنَ الرُّوحِ الْقُدُسِ. فَيُوسُفُ رَجُلُهَا إذْ كَانَ بَارّاً، وَلَمْ يَشَأْ أنْ يُشْهِرَهَا، أَرَادَ تَخْلِيَتَهَا سِرّاً. وَلكِنْ فِيمَا هُوَ مُتَفَكِّرٌ في هذَا، إذْ مَلاكُ الرَّبِّ قَدْ ظَهَرَ لَهُ في حُلْمٍ قَائِلاً: "يَا يُوسُفُ ابْنَ دَاوُدَ، لا تَخَفْ أنْ تَأْخُذَ مَرْيَمَ امْرَأَتَكَ. لأنَّ الَّذِي سَتَلِدُهُ هُوَ مِنَ الرُّوحِ الْقُدُسِ. فَسَتَلِدُ ابْناً وَتَدْعُو اسْمَهُ يَسُوعَ. لأنهُ يُخَلِّصُ شَعْبَهُ مِنْ خَطَايَاهُمْ". وَهذَا كُلُّهُ كَانَ لِكَيْ يَتِمَّ مَا قِيلَ مِنَ الرَّبِّ بِالنَّبيِّ الْقَائِلِ: "هُوَذَا الْعَذْرَاءُ تَحْبَلُ وَتَلِدُ ابْناً، وَيُدْعَى اسْمَهُ عِمَّانُوئِيلَ " الَّذِي تَفْسِيرُهُ: اللَّهُ مَعَنَا. فَلَمَّا اسْتَيْقَظَ يُوسُفُ مِنَ النَّوْمِ فَعَلَ كَمَا أَمَرَهُ مَلاَكُ الرَّبِّ، وَأَخَذَ مَرْيَمَ امْرَأَتَهُ. وَلَمْ يَعْرِفْهَا حَتَّى وَلَدَت الابْنَ. وَدَعَا اسْمَهُ يَسُوعَ. وَالْمَجْدُ لِلَّهِ دَائِماً.

*Brethren (I speak after the manner of man,) yet a man's testament, if it be confirmed, no man despiseth, nor addeth to it. To Abraham were the promises made and to his seed. He saith not, And to his seeds, as of many: but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. Now this I say, that the testament which was confirmed by God, the law which was made after four hundred and thirty years, doth not disannul, to make the promise of no effect. For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise. But God gave it to Abraham by promise. Why then was the law? It was set because of transgressions, until the seed should come, to whom he made the promise, being ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. Now a mediator is not of one: but God is one. Was the law then against the promises of God? God forbid. For if there had been a law given which could give life, verily justice should have been by the law. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise, by the faith of Jesus Christ, might be given to them that believe. But before the faith came, we were kept under the law shut up, unto that faith which was to be revealed. Wherefore the law was our pedagogue in Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after the faith is come, we are no longer under a pedagogue. For you are all the children of God by faith, in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized in Christ, have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek: there is neither bond nor free: there is neither male nor female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you be Christ's, then are you the seed of Abraham, heirs according to the promise. Christ has freed us from the servitude of the law. We are the freeborn sons of Abraham. Now I say, as long as the heir is a child, he differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed by the father: So we also, when we were children, were serving under the elements of the world. But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent his Son, made of a woman, made under the law: That he might redeem them who were under the law: that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because you are sons, God hath sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying: Abba, Father. Therefore now he is not a servant, but a son. And if a son, an heir also through God. But then indeed, not knowing God, you served them, who, by nature, are not gods. But now, after that you have known God, or rather are known by God: how turn you again to the weak and needy elements, which you desire to serve again? You observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest perhaps I have laboured in vain among you. Be ye as I, because I also am as you: brethren, I beseech you: you have not injured me at all. And you know, how through infirmity of the flesh, I preached the gospel to you heretofore: and your temptation in my flesh, You despised not, nor rejected: but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. Where is then your blessedness? For I bear you witness, that, if it could be done, you would have plucked out your own eyes, and would have given them to me. Am I then become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? They are zealous in your regard not well: but they would exclude you, that you might be zealous for them. But be zealous for that which is good in a good thing always: and not only when I am present with you. The grace of God the Father be with you all. Amen.

أيهَا الإخْوَةُ بِحَسَبِ الإنْسَانِ أَقُولُ: لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ يُرْذِلُ عَهْدَ إنْسَانٍ قَدْ تَمَكَّنَ أَوْ يَزِيدُ عَلَيْهِ. وَلَمَّا وُعِدَ إبْرَاهِيمُ وَنَسْلُهُ بِمَوَاعِيدٍ. لا يَقُولُ: "وَفي أَنْسَالِهِ " كَأنهُ يَقُولُ عَنْ كَثِيرِينَ، بَلْ كَأنهُ عَنْ وَاحِدٍ: "وَفي نَسْلِكَ " الَّذِي هُوَ الْمَسِيحُ. وَإنَّمَا أَقُولُ هذَا: إنَّ النَّامُوسَ الَّذِي صَارَ بَعْدَ أَرْبَعِ مِئَةٍ وَثَلاَثِينَ سَنةً، لا يُبْطِلُ عَهْداً قَدْ سَبَقَ فَتَمَكَّنَ مِنَ اللَّهِ حَتَّى يُبَطِّلَ الْمَوْعِدَ. وَإنْ كَانَتْ الْوِرَاثَةُ مِنَ النَّامُوسِ، فَلَمْ تَكُنْ أيْضاً مِنْ مَوْعِدٍ. وَلكِنَّ اللَّهَ وَهَبَهَا لإبْرَاهِيمَ بِمَوْعِدٍ. فَلِمَاذَا النَّامُوسُ بَعْدُ؟ قَدْ وُضِعَ مِنْ أَجْلِ التَّعَدِّيَاتِ، إلى أنْ يَأْتِيَ النَّسْلُ الَّذِي قَدْ وُعِدَ لَهُ، مُرَتَّباً بِمَلاَئِكَةٍ في يَدِ وَسِيطٍ. وَأَمَّا الْوَسِيطُ فَلاَ يَكُونُ لِوَاحِدٍ. وَلكِنَّ اللَّهَ وَاحِدٌ. أَفَالنَّامُوسُ إذَاً ضِدُّ مَوَاعِيدِ اللَّهِ؟ حَاشَا! لأنهُ لَوْ أُعْطِيَ نَامُوسٌ قَادِرٌ أنْ يُحْيِيَ، لَكَانَ بِالْحَقِيقَةِ الْبِرُّ بِالنَّامُوسِ. لكِنَّ الْكِتَابَ أَغْلَقَ عَلَى الْكُلِّ تَحْتَ الْخَطِيِّةِ، لِيُعْطَى الْمَوْعِدُ مِنَ الإيمَانِ بِيَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ لِلَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ. وَلكِنْ قَبْلَمَا جَاءَ الإيمَانُ كُنَّا مَحْرُوسِينَ تَحْتَ النَّامُوسِ، مُغْلَقاً عَلَيْنَا إلى الإيمَانِ الْعَتِيدِ أنْ يُظْهَرَ. إذاً قَدْ كَانَ النَّامُوسُ مُرْشِداً لَنَا إلى الْمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ؛ لِكَيْ نَتَبَرَّرَ بِالإيمَانِ. وَلكِنْ بَعْدَ مَا جَاءَ الإيمَانُ، لَسْنَا تَحْتَ مُرْشِدٍ؛ لأنكُمْ جَمِيعاً أَبْنَاءُ اللَّهِ بِالإيمَانِ بِالْمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ. لأنَّ جَمِيعَكُمْ الَّذِينَ اعْتَمَدْتُمْ للْمَسِيحِ قَدْ لَبِسْتُمُ الْمَسِيحَ: لَيْسَ يَهُودِيٌّ وَلا يُونَانِيٌّ. لَيْسَ عَبْدٌ وَلا حُرٌّ. لَيْسَ ذَكَرٌ وَلا أُنْثَى؛ لأنكُمْ جَمِيعاً وَاحِدٌ في الْمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ. فَإنْ كُنْتُمْ لِلْمَسِيحِ، فَأَنْتُمْ إذاً مِنْ نَسْلِ إبْرَاهِيمَ، وَحَسَبَ الْمَوْعِدِ أنْتُمْ وَرَثَةٌ. وَإنَّمَا أَقُولُ: مَا دَامَ الْوَارِثُ طفلاً لا يَفْرِقُ شَيْئاً عَنِ الْعَبْدِ، مَعَ كَوْنهِ سَيِّدَ الكُلِّ. بَلْ هُوَ تَحْتَ أَوْصِيَاءَ وَوُكَلاَءَ إلى الْوَقْتِ الْمُؤَجَّلِ مِنْ أَبِيهِ. هكَذَا نَحْنُ أيْضاً: لَمَّا كُنَّا أَطْفَالاً، كُنَّا مُسْتَعْبَدِينَ تَحْتَ أَرْكَانِ الْعَالَمِ. وَلكِنْ لَمَّا جَاءَ مِلْءُ الزَّمَانِ، أَرْسَلَ اللَّهُ ابْنَهُ مَوْلُوداً مِنِ امْرَأَةٍ، صَائِراً تَحْتَ النَّامُوسِ؛ لِيَشْتَرِيَ الَّذِينَ هُمْ تَحْتَ النَّامُوسِ، لِنَنَالَ التَّبَنِّي. ثُمَّ بِمَا أنكُمْ أبْنَاءٌ، أَرْسَلَ اللَّهُ رُوحَ ابْنِهِ إلى قُلُوبِكُمْ صَارِخاً: "يَا آَبا الآبُ". إذاً لَسْتَ أَنْتَ بَعْدُ عَبْداً بَلِ ابْناً، وَإنْ كُنْتَ ابْناً فَوَارِثٌ مِنْ قِبَلِ اللَّهِ. لكِنْ حِينَئِذٍ إذْ كُنْتُمْ لا تَعْرِفُونَ اللَّهَ، اسْتُعْبِدْتُمْ لِلَّذِينَ لَيْسُوا هُمْ بِالطَّبِيعَةِ آلِهَةً. أَمَّا الآنَ إذْ عَرَفْتُمُ اللَّهَ، بَلْ بِالْحَرِيِّ عُرِفْتُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ، فَكَيْفَ تَرْجِعُونَ أيْضاً إلى الأَرْكَانِ الضَّعِيفَةِ الْفَقِيرَةِ التي تُرِيدُونَ أنْ تُسْتَعْبَدُوا لَهَا مَرَّةً أُخْرَى؟ أَتَحْفَظُونَ أياماً وَشُهُوراً وَأَوْقَاتاً وَسِنِينَ؟ إنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ أنْ أَكُونَ قَدْ تَعِبْتُ فِيكُم بَاطِلاً. أَتَضَرَّعُ إلَيْكُمْ يَا إخْوَتِي، كُونُوا كَمَا أَنا لأني أَنا أيْضاً كَمَا أَنْتُمْ. لَمْ تَظْلِمُونِي شَيْئاً. وَلكِنَّكُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أني بِضَعْفِ الْجَسَدِ بَشَّرْتُكُمْ في الأَوَّلِ. وَتَجْرِبَتُكُمْ التي في جَسَدِي لَمْ تَزْدَرُوا بِهَا وَلا كَرِهْتُمُوهَا، بَلْ كَمَلاَكٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ قَبِلْتُمُوهَا، كَالْمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ. فَأيْنَ إذاً تَطْوِيبُكُمْ؟ لأني أَشْهَدُ لَكُمْ أنهُ لَوْ أَمْكَنَكُمْ لَقَلَعْتُمْ عُيُونَكُمْ وَأَعْطَيْتُمُونيهَا. أَفَقَدْ صِرْتُ إذاً عَدُوّاً لَكُمْ لأني أَعْلَمْتَكُمْ بِالْحَقِّ؟ يَغَارُونَ لَكُمْ لَيْسَ حَسَناً، بَلْ يُرِيدُونَ أنْ يَصُدُّوكُمْ لِكَيْ تَغَارُوا لَهُمْ. فَحَسَناً أنْ تَغَارُوا في الْخَيرِ كُلَّ حِينٍ، وَلَيْسَ في حُضُورِي عِنْدَكُمْ فَقَطْ. نعمةُ اللَّهِ الآبِ فَلْتَحِلَّ عَلَى أرواحِنا يا آبائي وإخْوَتي. آمين.

الكاثوليكون من يوحنا الأولى

4:1-14

٤ : ١ − ١٤

*Dearly beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits if they be of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. By this is the spirit of God known. Every spirit which confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is of God: And every spirit that dissolveth Jesus, is not of God: and this is Antichrist, of whom you have heard that he cometh, and he is now already in the world. You are of God, little children, and have overcome him. Because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore of the world they speak, and the world heareth them. We are of God. He that knoweth God, heareth us. He that is not of God, heareth us not. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. Dearly beloved, let us love one another, for charity is of God. And every one that loveth, is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is charity. By this hath the charity of God appeared towards us, because God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we may live by him. In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins. My dearest, if God hath so loved us; we also ought to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abideth in us, and his charity is perfected in us. In this we know that we abide in him, and he in us: because he hath given us of his spirit. And we have seen, and do testify, that the Father hath sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world. Do not love the world or the things in the world. The world passes away, and its desires; but he who does the will of God abides forever. Amen.

يَا أَحِبَّائِي، لا تُصَدِّقُوا كُلَّ رُوحٍ، بَلِ امْتَحِنُوا الأَرْوَاحَ: هَلْ هِيَ مِنَ اللَّهِ؟ لأنَّ أنْبِياءَ كَذَبَةً كَثِيرِينَ قَدْ أَتوْا إلى الْعَالَمِ. بِهذَا تَعْرِفُونَ رُوحَ اللَّهِ: كُلُّ رُوحٍ يَعْتَرِفُ أنَّ يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ قَدْ جَاءَ في الْجَسَدِ فَهُوَ مِنَ اللَّهِ، وَكُلُّ رُوحٍ لا يَعْتَرِفُ بِيَسُوعَ، فَلَيسَ هو مِنَ اللَّهِ. وَهذَا هُوَ ضِدُّ الْمَسِيحِ الَّذِي سَمِعْتُمْ أنهُ يَأتِي وَالآنَ هُوَ في الْعَالَمِ. أَمَّا أَنْتُمْ فَأَبْنَاءٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ، وَقَدْ غَلَبْتُمُوهُمْ لأنَّ الَّذِي فِيكُمْ أَعْظَمُ مِنَ الَّذِي في الْعَالَمِ. هُمْ مِنَ الْعَالَمِ. مِنْ أَجْلِ ذلِكَ يَتَكَلَّمُونَ مِنَ الْعَالَمِ، وَالْعَالَمُ يَسْمَعُ لَهُمْ. وَأمَّا نَحْنُ فَمِنَ اللَّهِ. وَمَنْ يَعْرِفُ اللَّهَ يَسْمَعُ لَنَا، وَمَنْ لَيْسَ مِنَ اللَّهِ لا يَسْمَعُ لَنَا. بِهذَا نَعْرِفُ رُوحَ الْحَقِّ وَرُوحَ الضَّلالَةِ. يَا أَحِبَّائِي، فَلْنُحِبَّ بَعْضُنَا بَعْضاً، لأنَّ الْمَحَبَّةَ هِيَ مِنَ اللَّهِ، وَكُلُّ مَنْ يُحِبُّ فَقَدْ وُلِدَ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَيَعْرِفُ اللَّهَ. وَمَنْ لا يُحِبُّ لَم يَعْرِفِ اللَّهَ، لأنَّ اللَّهَ مَحَبَّةٌ. بِهذَا أُظْهِرَتْ مَحَبَّةُ اللَّهِ فِينَا: لأنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ أَرْسَلَ ابْنَهُ الْوَحِيدَ إلى الْعَالَمِ لِكَيْ نَحْيَا بِهِ. في هذَا هِيَ الْمَحَبَّةُ: لَيْسَ أننا نَحْنُ أَحْبَبْنَا اللَّهَ، بَلْ أنهُ هُوَ أَحَبَّنَا، وَأَرْسَلَ ابنَهُ فداءً لِخَطَايَانَا. يَا أَحِبَّائِي، إنْ كَانَ اللَّهُ قَدْ أَحَبَّنَا هكَذَا، يَنْبَغِي لَنَا أيْضاً أنْ نُحِبَّ بَعْضُنَا بَعْضاً. اللَّهُ لَمْ يَنْظُرْهُ أَحَدٌ قَطُّ. إنْ أَحْبَبْنَا بَعْضُنَا بَعْضاً، فَاللَّهُ يَثْبُتُ فِينَا، وَمَحَبَّتُهُ قَدْ تَكَمَّلَتْ فِينَا. بِهذَا نَعْرِفُ أنَّنَا نَثْبُتُ فِيهِ وَهُوَ يَثْبُتُ فِينَا: لأنهُ أَعْطَانَا مِنْ رُوحِهِ. وَنَحْنُ قَدْ رَأيْنَا وَنَشْهَدُ أنَّ الآبَ قَدْ أَرْسَلَ ابْنَهُ لِخَلاصِ الْعَالَمِ. لا تُحِبُّوا العَالَمَ ولا الأشْيَاءَ التي في العَالَمِ، لأنَّ العَالَمَ يمْضِي وَشَهْوَتُهُ مَعَهُ، وأمَّا مَنْ يَعملُ مَشِيئَةَ اللهِ فإنه يَثْبُتُ إلى الأبدِ. آمين.

*Now when Paul and they that were with him had sailed from Paphos, they came to Perge in Pamphylia. And John departing from them, returned to Jerusalem. But they passing through Perge, came to Antioch in Pisidia: and entering into the synagogue on the sabbath day, they sat down. And after the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying: Ye men, brethren, if you have any word of exhortation to make to the people, speak. Then Paul rising up, and with his hand bespeaking silence, said: Ye men of Israel, and you that fear God, give ear. The God of the people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they were sojourners in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought them out from thence, And for the space of forty years endured their manners in the desert. And destroying seven nations in the land of Chanaan, divided their land among them, by lot, As it were, after four hundred and fifty years: and after these things, he gave unto them judges, until Samuel the prophet. And after that they desired a king: and God gave them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, forty years. And when he had removed him, he raised them up David to be king: to whom giving testimony, he said: I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man according to my own heart, who shall do all my wills. Of this man's seed God according to his promise, hath raised up to Israel a Saviour, Jesus: John first preaching, before his coming, the baptism of penance to all the people of Israel. And when John was fulfilling his course, he said: I am not he, whom you think me to be: but behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose. The word of the Lord shall grow, multiply, be mighty, and be confirmed, in the holy Church of God. Amen.

ثُمَّ أَقْلَعَ بُولُسُ وَبَرْنَابَا وَمَنْ مَعَهمَا مِنْ بَافُوسَ وَأتَوْا إلى بَرْجَةِ بَمْفِيلِيَّةَ. وَأمَّا يُوحَنَّا فَفَارَقَهُمْ وَرَجَعَ إلى أُورُشَلِيمَ. وَأمَّا هُمْ فَخَرَجُوا مِنْ بَرْجَةَ وَأتَوْا إلى أَنْطَاكِيَةِ بِيسِيدِيَّةَ، وَدَخَلُوا الْمَجْمَعَ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ وَجَلَسُوا. وَبَعْدَ قِرَاءَةِ النَّامُوسِ وَالأنْبِيَاءِ، أَرْسَلَ إلَيْهِمْ رُؤَسَاءُ الْمَجْمَعِ قَائِلِينَ: "أيهَا الرِّجَالُ الإخْوَةُ، إنْ كَانَتْ عِنْدَكُمْ كَلِمَةُ تَعْزِيَةٍ لِلشَّعْبِ فَقُولُوهَا". فَقَامَ بُولُسُ وَأشَارَ إلَيْهمْ بِيَدِهِ وَقَالَ: "أيهَا الرِّجَالُ الإسْرَائِيلِيُّونَ وَالَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ اللَّهَ، اسْمَعُوا! إلهُ شَعْبِ إسْرَائِيلَ اخْتَارَ آباءَنَا، وَرَفَعَ الشَّعْبَ في الْغُرْبَةِ في أَرْضِ مِصْرَ، وَبِذِرَاعٍ عَالِيَةٍ أَخْرَجَهُمْ مِنْهَا. وَعَالَهُمْ مُدَّةَ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً في الْبَرِّيَّةِ. ثُمَّ أَهْلَكَ سَبْعَةَ أُمَمٍ في أَرْضِ كَنْعَانَ وَأَوْرَثَهُمْ أَرْضَهُمْ أَرْبَعَ مِئَةِ سَنَةٍ. وَبَعْدَ ذلِكَ أَعْطَاهُمْ قُضَاةً حَتَّى صَمُوئيلَ النَّبيِّ. وَمِنْ ثَمَّ طَلَبُوا مَلِكاً، فَأَعْطَاهُمُ اللَّهُ شَاوُلَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ، رَجُلاً مِنْ سِبْطِ بِنْيَامِينَ، أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً. ثُمَّ عَزَلَهُ وَأَقَامَ لَهُمْ دَاوُدَ مَلِكاً، هذَا الَّذِي شَهِدَ لأَجْلِهِ، إذْ قَالَ: وَجَدْتُ دَاوُدَ بْنَ يَسَّى رَجُلاً حَسَبَ قَلْبِي، هذَا الَّذِي سَيَصْنَعُ كُلَّ مَشِيئَتِي. وَمِنْ نَسْلِ هذَا، حَسَبَ الْوَعْدِ، أَقَامَ اللَّهُ لإسْرَائِيلَ مُخَلِّصَاً: يَسُوعَ. إذْ سَبَقَ يُوحَنَّا فَكَرَزَ قَبْلَ مَجِيئِهِ بِمَعْمُودِيَّةِ التَّوْبَةِ لِجَمِيعِ شَعْبِ إسْرَائِيلَ. وَلَمَّا أَكْمَلَ يُوحَنَّا سَعْيَهُ جَعَلَ يَقُولُ: "مَنْ تَظُنُّونَ أني أنَا؟ لَسْتُ أنَا إيَّاهُ، لكِنْ هُوَذَا يَأْتِي بَعْدِي الَّذِي لَسْتُ مُسْتَحِقَّاً أنْ أَحُلَّ حِذَاءَ قَدَمَيْهِ. لَمْ تَزَلْ كَلِمَةُ الرَّبِّ تَنْمُو وتَكْثُرُ وتَعْتَزُّ وتَثْبُتُ، في بِيعَةِ اللَّهِ الْمُقَدَّسَةِ. آمين.

*And it came to pass, that in those days there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that the whole world should be enrolled. This enrolling was first made by Cyrinus, the governor of Syria. And all went to be enrolled, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: because he was of the house and family of David, To be enrolled with Mary his espoused wife, who was with child. And it came to pass, that when they were there, her days were accomplished, that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him up in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds watching, and keeping the night watches over their flock. And behold an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the brightness of God shone round about them; and they feared with a great fear. And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people: For, this day, is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David. And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God, and saying: Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will. And it came to pass, after the angels departed from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: Let us go over to Bethlehem, and let us see this word that is come to pass, which the Lord hath shewed to us. And they came with haste; and they found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. And seeing, they understood of the word that had been spoken to them concerning this child. And all that heard, wondered; and at those things that were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these words, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God, for all the things they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. Glory be to God forever.

وَفي تِلْكَ الأيامِ صَدَرَ أَمْرٌ مِنْ أُوغُسْطُسَ قَيْصَرَ بِأَنْ يُكْتَتَبَ كُلُّ الْمَسْكُونَةِ. وَهذَا الاكْتِتَابُ الأَوَّلُ حَصَلَ إذْ كَانَ كِيرِينِيُوسُ وَالِيَاً عَلَى سُورِيا. فَمَضَى الْجَمِيعُ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ إلى مَدِينَتِهِ ليُسَجِّلُوا اسْمَهُمْ. فَصَعِدَ يُوسُفُ أيْضاً مِنَ الجَلِيلِ مِنْ مَدِينَةِ النَّاصِرَةِ إلى الْيَهُودِيَّةِ، إلى مَدِينَةِ دَاوُدَ التي تُدْعَى بَيْتَ لَحْمٍ؛ لِكَوْنهِ مِنْ بَيْتِ دَاوُدَ وَعَشِيرَتهِ، لِيُكْتَتَبَ مَعَ مَرْيَمَ الْمَخْطُوبَةِ لَهُ وَهِيَ حُبْلَى. وَبَيْنَمَا هُمَا هُنَاكَ تَمَّتْ أيامُهَا لِتَلِدَ. فَوَلَدَتْ ابْنَهَا الْبِكْرَ وَلَفَّتْهُ وَوَضَعَتْهُ في مِذْوَدٍ، إذْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُمَا مَوْضِعٌ في الْمَنْزِلِ. وَكَانَ في تِلْكَ الْكُورَةِ رُعَاةٌ يَرْعُونَ في الْحَقْلِ وَيَحْرُسُونَ حِرَاسَةَ اللَّيْلِ عَلَى رَعِيَّتِهِمْ، وَإذا مَلاكُ الرَّبِّ وَقَفَ بِهِمْ، وَمَجْدُ الرَّبِّ أَضَاءَ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَخَافُوا خَوْفاً عَظِيماً جِدّاً. فَقَالَ لَهُمُ الْمَلاَكُ: "لا تَخَافُوا! فَهَا أنا أُبَشِّرُكُمْ بِفَرَحٍ عَظِيمٍ سَيَكُونُ لِجَمِيعِ الشَّعْبِ: إنَّهُ وُلِدَ لَكُمُ الْيَوْمَ في مَدِينَةِ دَاوُدَ مُخَلِّصٌ هُوَ المسِيحُ الرَّبُّ. وَهذِهِ لَكُمُ عَلاَمَةٌ: تَجِدُونَ طِفْلاً مَلْفُوفَاً مَوْضُوعَاً في مِذْوَدٍ". وَظَهَرَ بَغْتَةً مَعَ الْمَلاَكِ جُمْهُورٌ مِنَ الْجُنْدِ السَّماوِيِّ مُسَبِّحِينَ اللَّهَ وَقَائِلِينَ: "الْمَجْدُ لِلَّهِ في الأَعَالِي، وَعَلَى الأَرْضِ السَّلامُ، وَفي النَّاسِ الْمَسَرَّةُ". وَلَمَّا مَضَتْ عَنْهُمُ الْمَلائِكَةُ إلى السَّمَاءِ، تَكَلَّمَ الرُّعَاةُ مَعَ بَعْضِهمْ قَائِلِينَ: "هَلُمَّ بِنَا إلى بَيْتِ لَحْمٍ لِنَنْظُرَ هذَا الْكَلاَمَ الَّذِي كَانَ. الَّذِي أَعْلَمَنَا بِهِ الرَّبُّ". فَجَاءُوا مُسْرِعِينَ، وَوَجَدُوا مَرْيَمَ وَيُوسُفَ وَالطِّفْلَ مَوْضُوعَاً في مِذْوَدٍ. فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ عَلِمُوا أنَّ الكَلاَمَ الَّذِي قِيلَ لَهُمْ كَانَ عَنْ هذَا الطِّفْلِ. وَكُلُّ الَّذِينَ سَمِعُوا تَعَجَّبُوا مِمَّا قِيلَ لَهُمْ مِنَ الرُّعَاةِ. وَأمَّا مَرْيَمُ فَكَانَتْ تَحْفَظُ جَمِيعَ هذَا الْكَلاَمِ مُتَفَكِّرَةً بِهِ في قَلْبِهَا. ثُمَّ رَجَعَ الرُّعَاةُ وَهُمْ يُمَجِّدُونَ اللهَ وَيُسَبِّحُونَهُ عَلَى كُلِّ مَا سَمِعُوهُ وَرَأَوْهُ كَمَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ. وَالْمَجْدُ لِلَّهِ دَائِماً.
