Every one therefore that heareth these my words, and doth them, shall be likened to a wise man that built his house upon a rock, And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded on a rock. Glory be to God forever.

لأنهُ يُوجَدُ كَثِيرُونَ سَيَقُولُونَ لِي في ذلِكَ الْيَوْمِ: يَارَبُّ، يَارَبُّ! أَلَيْسَ بِاسْمِكَ تَنَبَّأْنا، وَبِاسْمِكَ أَخْرَجْنَا شَيَاطِينَ، وَبِاسْمِكَ صَنَعْنَا قُوَّاتٍ كَثِيرَةً؟ فَحِينَئِذٍ أُصَرِّحُ لَهُمْ: إنِّي لَمْ أَعْرِفْكُمْ قَطُّ! اذْهَبُوا عَنِّي يَا فَاعِلِي الإثْمِ! فَكُلُّ مَنْ يَسْمَعُ أَقْوَالِي هذِهِ وَيَعْمَلُ بِهَا، أُشَبِّهُهُ بِرَجُلٍ عَاقِلٍ، بَنَى بَيْتَهُ عَلَى الصَّخْرِ. فَنَزَلَ الْمَطَرُ، وَجَاءَت الأنْهَارُ، وَهَبَّت الرِّيَاحُ، وَصَدَمَتْ ذلِكَ الْبَيْتَ فَلَمْ يَسْقُطْ؛ لأنَّ أَسَاسَهُ كَانَ ثَابِتَاً عَلَى الصَّخْرِ. وَالْمَجْدُ لِلَّهِ دَائِماً.

*And a certain man said to him: Lord, are they few that are saved? But he said to them: Strive to enter by the narrow gate; for many, I say to you, shall seek to enter, and shall not be able. But when the master of the house shall be gone in, and shall shut the door, you shall begin to stand without, and knock at the door, saying: Lord, open to us. And he answering, shall say to you: I know you not, whence you are. Then you shall begin to say: We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. And he shall say to you: I know you not, whence you are: depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you shall see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. And there shall come from the east and the west, and the north and the south; and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. And behold, they are last that shall be first; and they are first that shall be last. Glory be to God forever.

فَقَالَ لَهُ وَاحِدٌ: "يَارَبُّ، أَقَلِيلٌ هُمُ الَّذِينَ يَخْلُصُونَ؟". فَقَالَ لَهُمُ: "اجْتَهِدُوا أنْ تَدْخُلُوا مِنَ الْبَابِ الضَّيِّقِ، فَإنِّي أَقُولُ لَكُمْ: إنَّ كَثِيرِينَ سَيَطْلُبُونَ أنْ يَدْخُلُوا وَلا يَقْدِرُونَ وَإذَا بَلَغَ أنْ يَقُومَ رَبُّ الْبَيْتِ وَيُغْلِقَ الْبَابَ، فَتَبْتَدِئُونَ بِالْوُقُوفِ خَارِجَاً وَتَقْرَعُونَ الْبَابَ قَائِلِينَ: يَارَبُّ، يَارَبُّ! افْتَحْ لَنَا. فَيُجِيبُ، وَيَقُولُ لَكُمْ: لا أَعْرِفُكُمْ مِنْ أَيْنَ أَنْتُمْ! حِينَئِذٍ تَبْتَدِئُونَ تَقُولُونَ: أَكَلْنَا قُدَّامَكَ وَشَرِبْنَا، وَعَلَّمْتَ في شَوَارِعِنَا! فَيَقُولُ لَكُمْ: إنِّي لا أَعْرِفُكُمْ مِنْ أَيْنَ أَنْتُمْ! اذْهَبُوا عَنِّي يَا جَمِيعَ فَاعِلِي الظُّلْمِ! هُنَاكَ يَكُونُ الْبُكَاءُ وَصَرِيرُ الأسْنَانِ، مَتَى رَأَيْتُمْ إبْرَاهِيمَ وَإسْحَقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَجَمِيعَ الأنْبِيَاءِ في مَلَكُوتِ اللَّهِ، وَأَنْتُمْ مَطْرُوحُونَ خَارِجَاً. وَيَأْتُونَ مِنَ الْمَشَارِقِ وَالْمَغَارِبِ وَمِنَ الشِّمَالِ وَالْجَنُوبِ، وَيَتَّكِئُونَ في مَلَكُوتِ اللَّهِ. وَهُوَذَا آخِرُونَ يَكُونُونَ أَوَّلِينَ، وَأَوَّلُونَ يَكُونُونَ آخِرِينَ". وَالْمَجْدُ لِلَّهِ دَائِماً.

*And I, brethren, could not speak to you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal. As unto little ones in Christ. I gave you milk to drink, not meat; for you were not able as yet. But neither indeed are you now able; for you are yet carnal. For, whereas there is among you envying and contention, are you not carnal, and walk according to man? For while one saith, I indeed am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollo; are you not men? What then is Apollo, and what is Paul? The ministers of him whom you have believed; and to every one as the Lord hath given. I have planted, Apollo watered, but God gave the increase. Therefore, neither he that planteth is any thing, nor he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth, and he that watereth, are one. And every man shall receive his own reward, according to his own labour. The grace of God the Father be with you all. Amen.

*Simon Peter, servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained equal faith with us in the justice of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ. Grace to you and peace be accomplished in the knowledge of God and of Christ Jesus our Lord: As all things of his divine power which appertain to life and godliness, are given us, through the knowledge of him who hath called us by his own proper glory and virtue. By whom he hath given us most great and precious promises: that by these you may be made partakers of the divine nature: flying the corruption of that concupiscence which is in the world. And you, employing all care, minister in your faith, virtue; and in virtue, knowledge; And in knowledge, abstinence; and in abstinence, patience; and in patience, godliness; And in godliness, love of brotherhood; and in love of brotherhood, charity. For if these things be with you and abound, they will make you to be neither empty nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he that hath not these things with him, is blind, and groping, having forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore, brethren, labour the more, that by good works you may make sure your calling and election. For doing these things, you shall not sin at any time. For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Do not love the world or the things in the world. The world passes away, and its desires; but he who does the will of God abides forever. Amen.

سِمْعَانُ بُطْرُسُ عَبْدُ يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ وَرَسُولُهُ، إلى الَّذِينَ نَالُوا مَعَنَا إيمَاناً مُكَرَّمَاً مُسَاوِياً لَنَا، بِبِرِّ إلَهِنَا ومُخَلِّصِنَا يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ: لِتَكْثُرْ لَكُمُ النِّعْمَةُ وَالسَّلاَمُ بِمَعْرِفَةِ اللَّهِ وَيَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ رَبِّنَا. كَمَا أنَّ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ قَدْ صَارَ لَنَا بِقُوَّةِ لاهُوتِهِ لِلْحَيَاةِ وَالتَّقْوَى، التي أُعْطِيَتْ لَنَا مَجَّاناً بِمَعْرِفَةِ الَّذِي دَعَانَا بِمَجْدِهِ وَالْفَضِيلَةِ، وَبِوَاسِطَةِ هذِهِ الأَمْجَادِ الْجَلِيلِةِ، التي أُعْطِيَتْ لَنَا لِلكَرَامَةِ لِكَيْ تَصِيرُوا بِهَا شُرَكَاءَ الطَّبِيعَةِ الإلَهِيَّةِ، هَارِبِينَ مِنْ شَهْوَةِ الْفَسَادِ التي في الْعَالَمِ. وَلِهَذَا عَيْنِهِ وَأَنْتُمْ بَاذِلُونَ كُلَّ اجْتِهَادٍ قَدِّمُوا في إيمَانِكُمْ فَضِيلَةً، وَفي الْفَضِيلَةِ مَعْرِفَةً، وَفي الْمَعْرِفَةِ تَعَفُّفاً، وَفي التَّعَفُّفِ صَبْراً، وَفي الصَّبْرِ تَقْوَى، وَفي التَّقْوَى مَوَدَّةً أَخَوِيَّةً، وَفي الْمَوَدَّةِ الأَخَوِيَّةِ مَحَبَّةً؛ لأنَّ هذِهِ إذَا كَانَتْ فِيكُمْ وَكَثُرَتْ، تُصَيِّرُكُمْ لا مُتَكَاسِلِينَ وَلا غَيْرَ مُثْمِرِينَ لِمَعْرِفَةِ رَبِّنَا يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ. لأنَّ الَّذِي لَيْسَ عِنْدَهُ هذِهِ، هُوَ أَعْمَى قَصِيرُ الْبَصَرِ، قَدْ نَسِيَ تَطْهِيرَ خَطَايَاهُ السَّالِفَةِ. لِذلِكَ بِالأَكْثَرِ اجْتَهِدُوا أَيهَا الإخْوَةُ أَنْ تَجْعَلُوا دَعْوَتَكُمْ وَاخْتِيَارَكُمْ ثَابِتَيْنِ بِالأَعْمَالِ الصَّالِحَةِ؛ لأَنكُمْ إذَا فَعَلْتُمْ ذلِكَ، لَنْ تَزِلُّوا أبداً. لأنهُ هكَذَا يُقَدَّمُ لَكُمْ بِغِنَىً دُخُولٌ إلى مَلَكُوتِ رَبِّنَا وَمُخَلِّصِنَا يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ الأبدِيِّ. لا تُحِبُّوا العَالَمَ ولا الأشْيَاءَ التي في العَالَمِ، لأنَّ العَالَمَ يمْضِي وَشَهْوَتُهُ مَعَهُ، وأمَّا مَنْ يَعملُ مَشِيئَةَ اللهِ فإنه يَثْبُتُ إلى الأبدِ. آمين.

*And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying: Men, brethren, hear me. Simon hath related how God first visited to take of the Gentiles a people to his name. And to this agree the words of the prophets, as it is written: After these things I will return, and will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and the ruins thereof I will rebuild, and I will set it up: That the residue of men may seek after the Lord, and all nations upon whom my name is invoked, saith the Lord, who doth these things. To the Lord was his own work known from the beginning of the world. For which cause I judge that they, who from among the Gentiles are converted to God, are not to be disquieted. But that we write unto them, that they refrain themselves from the pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood. For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him in the synagogues, where he is read every sabbath. Then it pleased the apostles and ancients, with the whole church, to choose men of their own company, and to send to Antioch, with Paul and Barnabas, namely, Judas, who was surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren. Writing by their hands: The apostles and ancients, brethren, to the brethren of the Gentiles that are at Antioch, and in Syria and Cilicia, greeting. Forasmuch as we have heard, that some going out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls; to whom we gave no commandment: It hath seemed good to us, being assembled together, to choose out men, and to send them unto you, with our well beloved Barnabas and Paul: Men that have given their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who themselves also will, by word of mouth, tell you the same things. For it hath seemed good to the Holy Ghost and to us, to lay no further burden upon you than these necessary things: That you abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which things keeping yourselves, you shall do well. Fare ye well. The word of the Lord shall grow, multiply, be mighty, and be confirmed, in the holy Church of God. Amen.

وَبَعْدَمَا سَكَتَا، أَجَابَ يَعْقُوبُ قَائِلاً: "أيهَا الرِّجَالُ إخْوَتُنَا، اسْمَعُونِي. سِمْعَانُ قَدْ أَخْبَرَ كَيْفَ افْتَقَدَ اللَّهُ أَوَّلاً الأُمَمَ لِيَأْخُذَ مِنْهُمْ شَعْباً عَلَى اسْمِهِ. وَهذَا تُوافِقُهُ أَقْوَالُ الأنبِيَاءِ، كَمَا هُوَ مَكْتُوبٌ: سَأَرْجِعُ بَعْدَ هذَا وَأبْنِي أيْضاً خَيْمَةَ دَاوُدَ السَّاقِطَةَ، وَأَبْنِي أيْضاً رَدْمَهَا وَأُقِيمُهَا ثَانِيَةً، لِكَيْ يَطْلُبَ الْبَاقُونَ مِنَ النَّاسِ الرَّبَّ، وَجَمِيعُ الأُمَمِ الَّذِينَ دُعِيَ اسْمِي عَلَيْهِمْ، يَقُولُ الرَّبُّ الصَّانِعُ هذَا الأَمْرَ الْمَعْرُوفَ مُنْذُ الأَزَلِ. لِذلِكَ أَنا أقْضِي أنْ لا يُثَقَّلَ عَلَى الرَّاجِعِينَ إلى اللَّهِ مِنَ الأُمَمِ، بَلْ يُرْسَلَ إلَيْهِمْ أنْ يَمْتَنِعُوا عَنْ ذَبَائِحِ الأصْنَامِ، وَالزِّنا، وَالْمَخْنُوقِ، وَالدَّمِ الْمَائِتِ. لأنَّ مُوسَى مُنْذُ الأجْيَالِ الْقَدِيمَةِ، لَهُ في كُلِّ مَدِينَةٍ مَنْ يَكْرِزُ بِهِ، إذْ يُقْرَأُ في الْمَجَامِعِ في كُلِّ سَبْتٍ". حِينَئِذٍ رَأى الرُّسُلُ والقُسُوسُ وَكُلُّ الكَنِيسَةِ أنْ يَخْتَارُوا رِجَالاً مِنْهُمْ، لِيُرْسِلُوهُمْ إلى أنْطاكِيَةَ مَعَ بُولُسَ وَبَرْنَابَاسَ: يَهُوذَا الَّذِي يُدْعَى بَرْسَبَاسَ، وَسِيلاَس، رَجُلَيْنِ مُتَقَدِّمَيْنِ في الإخْوَةِ. وَكَتَبُوا بِأيْدِيهِمْ لِلرُّسلِ وَالقُسُوسِ والإخْوَةِ الَّذِينَ في أنْطَاكِيَةَ وَكِيلِيكِيَّةَ والشَّامِ: أيهَا الإخْوَةُ الَّذِينَ مِنَ الأُمَمِ افْرَحُوا لأننا قَدْ سَمِعْنَا أنَّ قَوْمَاً مِنْكُمْ قَدْ خَرَجُوا فَأقْلَقُوكُمْ، إذْ يُمِيلُونَ أنْفُسَكُمْ بِأقْوَالٍ لَمْ نَقُلْهَا. فَقَدْ رَأيْنا وَاجْتَمَعْنَا بِرَأْيٍ وَاحِدٍ وَاخْتَرْنَا رَجُلَيْنِ وَأرْسَلْنَاهُمَا إلَيْكُمْ مَعَ حَبِيبَيْنَا بَرْنَابَاسَ وَبُولُسَ، أُناسٌ قَدْ بَذَلُوا أنْفُسَهُمْ عَلَى اسْمِ رَبِّنَا يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ. فَأَرْسَلْنَا مَعَهُمَا يَهُوذا وَسِيلاَسَ، وَهُمَا أيْضاً يُخْبِرَانِكُمْ بِهذَا الْقَوْلِ. لأنَّ الرُّوحَ القُدُسَ قَدْ ارْتَضَى وَنَحْنُ أيْضاً أنْ لا نُزِيدَ عَلِيكُمْ ثِقْلاً أكْثَرَ، غَيْرَ هذِهِ الأشْيَاءِ الضَرُورِيَةِ: احْفَظُوا نُفُوسَكُمْ مِنْ ذَبَائِحِ الأوْثَانِ، وَمِنْ دَمِ الْمَيتِ، وَالْمَخْنُوقِ، وَمِنَ الزِّنَا، وَهذِهِ إذَا حَفِظْتُمْ نُفُوسَكُمْ مِنْهَا فَنِعمَ مَا تَصْنَعُونَ. كُونُوا مُعَافَيْنَ. لَمْ تَزَلْ كَلِمَةُ الرَّبِّ تَنْمُو وتَكْثُرُ وتَعْتَزُّ وتَثْبُتُ، في بِيعَةِ اللَّهِ الْمُقَدَّسَةِ. آمين.

*And there went great multitudes with him. And turning, he said to them: If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And whosoever doth not carry his cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple. For which of you having a mind to build a tower, doth not first sit down, and reckon the charges that are necessary, whether he have wherewithal to finish it: Lest, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that see it begin to mock him, Saying: This man began to build, and was not able to finish. Or what king, about to go to make war against another king, doth not first sit down, and think whether he be able, with ten thousand, to meet him that, with twenty thousand, cometh against him? Or else, whilst the other is yet afar off, sending an embassy, he desireth conditions of peace. So likewise every one of you that doth not renounce all that he possesseth, cannot be my disciple. Salt is good. But if the salt shall lose its savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? It is neither profitable for the land nor for the dunghill, but shall be cast out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Glory be to God forever.

وَكَانَ جُمُوعٌ كَثِيرَةٌ سَائِرِينَ مَعَهُ، فَالْتَفَتَ وَقَالَ لَهُمْ: "مَنْ يَأتِي إلَيَّ وَلا يُبْغِضُ أباهُ وَأُمَّهُ وَامْرَأتهُ وَأَوْلاَدَهُ وَإخْوَتَهُ وَأَخَوَاتِهِ، حَتَّى نَفْسَهُ أيْضاً، فَلاَ يَقْدِرُ أنْ يَكُونَ لِي تِلْمِيذاً. وَمَنْ لا يَحْمِلُ صَلِيبَهُ وَيَتْبَعُنِي فَلاَ يُمْكِنُهُ أنْ يَصِيرَ لِي تِلْمِيذاً. فَإنَّهُ مَنْ مِنْكُمْ يُرِيدُ أنْ يَبْنِيَ بُرْجاً أَفَلا يَجْلِسُ أوَّلاً وَيَحْسُبُ النَّفَقَةَ، وَهَلْ عِنْدَهُ مَا يُكَمِّلُهُ؟ لِئَلاَّ يَضَعَ الأسَاسَ وَلا يَقْدِرَ أنْ يُكَمِّلَهُ، فَيَبْتَدِئَ جَمِيعُ النَّاظِرِينَ يَهْزَأُونَ بِهِ، قَائِلِينَ: إنَّ هَذَا الرَّجُلَ ابْتَدَأَ يَبْنِي وَلَمْ يَقْدِرْ أنْ يُكَمِّلَهُ. أوْ أَيُّ مَلِكٍ يَمْضِي إلى مُحَارَبَةِ مَلِكٍ آخَرَ، أَفَلاَ يَجْلِسُ أوَّلاً وَيَتَشَاوَرُ: هَلْ يَقْدِرُ أنْ يُلاقِيَ بِعَشَرَةِ آلافٍ الَّذِي يَأْتِي عَلَيْهِ بِعِشْرِينَ أَلْفاً؟ وَإلاَّ فَمَا دَامَ بَعِيداً عَنْهُ، يُرْسِلُ شَفَاعَةً طَالِبَاً سِلْمَاً. فَهكَذَا كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْكُمْ إنْ لَمْ يَتْرُكْ جَمِيعَ أمْوَالِهِ، فَلاَ يَقْدِرُ أنْ يَصِيرَ لِي تِلْمِيذاً. الْمِلْحُ جَيِّدٌ. فَإنْ فَسَدَ الْمِلْحُ، فَبِمَاذا يُمَلَّحُ؟ فَلاَ لأرْضٍ يَصْلُحُ وَلا لِمَزْبَلَةٍ، بَلْ يُلْقَى خَارِجاً. مَنْ لَهُ أُذُنَانِ لِلسَّمْعِ، فَلْيَسْمَعْ". وَالْمَجْدُ لِلَّهِ دَائِماً.
