1:19-2:3

١ : ١٩ − ٢ : ٣

*If you be willing, and will hearken to me, you shall eat the good things of the land. But if you will not, and will provoke me to wrath: the sword shall devour you because the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. How is the faithful city, that was full of judgment, become a harlot? justice dwelt in it, but now murderers. Thy silver is turned into dress: thy wine is mingled with water. Thy princes are faithless, companions of thieves: they all love bribes, the run after rewards. They judge not for the fatherless: and the widow's cometh not in to them. Therefore saith the Lord the God of hosts, the mighty one of Israel: Ah! I will comfort myself over my adversaries: and I will be revenged of my enemies. And I will turn my hand to thee, and I will clean purge away thy dress, and I will take away all thy tin. And I will restore thy judges as they were before, and thy counsellors as of old. After this thou shalt be called the city of the just, a faithful city. Sion shall be redeemed in judgment, and they shall bring her back in justice. And he shall destroy the wicked, and the sinners together: and they that have forsaken the Lord, shall be consumed. For they shall be confounded for the idols, to which they have sacrificed: and you shall be ashamed of the gardens which you have chosen. When you shall be as an oak with the leaves falling off, and as a garden without water. And your strength shall be as the ashes of tow, and your work as a spark: and both shall burn together, and there shall be none to quench it. All nations shall flow to the church of Christ. The Jews shall be rejected for their sins. Idolatry shall be destroyed. The word that Isaias the son of Amos saw, concerning Juda and Jerusalem. And in the last days the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be prepared on the top of mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills, and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go, and say: Come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob, and he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall come forth from Sion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. Glory be to The Holy Trinity.

إِنْ شِئْتُمْ وَسَمِعْتُمْ منِّي تَأْكُلُونَ خَيْرَ الأَرْضِ وَإِنْ أَبَيْتُمْ وَعَصَيْتُمْ تُؤْكَلُونَ بِالسَّيْفِ. لأَنَّ فَمَ قَدْ الرَّبِّ تَكَلَّمَ بِهَذا. كَيْفَ صَارَتِ صهيون المدينة الأَمِينَةُ زَانِيَةً! قد كانت مملوءة إنصافاً وفيها كَانَ يَبِيتُ الْعَدْل. وَأَمَّا الآنَ فَإنما فيها قتلة. فِضَّتُكِ صَارَتْ زَغَلاً وَخَمْرُكِ مَغْشُوشَةً بِمَاءٍ. رُؤَسَاؤُكِ مُتَمَرِّدُونَ وَشُرَكَاءُ المغتصبين وَلُصُوصٍ يُحِبُّونَ الْعَطَايَا وَينتبون الرَّشْوَةَ. لاَ يَنصفونَ الْيَتِيمِ وَدَعْوَى الأَرْمَلَةِ لاَ تَصِلُ إِلَيْهِمْ. لِذََلِكَ يَقُولُ السَّيِّدُ رَبُّ الْجُنُودِ: "الويل لأقوياء إِسْرَائِيلَ لأنه لم يزل غضبي على الذين يقاومونني. وَأَنْتَقِمُ مِنْ أَعْدَائِي وَأَرُدُّ يَدِي عَلَيْكِ وَأسبككِ بطهارةٍ. وأُهلِكُ غير الطائعين. وَأنزعُ منكِ كل المنافقين وجميع المتعظمين وَأُعِيدُ قُضَاتَكِ كَمَا فِي الأَوَّلِ وَمُشِيرِيكِ كَمَا فِي الْبَدَاءَةِ. وَبَعْدَ ذَلِكَ تُدْعَيْنَ مَدِينَةَ الْعَدْلِ الْقَرْيَةَ الأَمِينَةَ صِهْيَوْنُ". بالانصاف ينجو سبيها والتائبون منها بالعدل والرحمة. وَالعُصاة والخُطاة يُحَطَمون معاً. وَاللذين تركوا الرَّب فانهم يستأصلون وتخذى أصنامهم التي أرادوها وترذل الْجَنَّات وَالذين اشتهوها إذ يَصِيرُونَ كَبُطْمَةٍ قَدْ ذَبُلَ وَرَقُهَا وَكَجَنَّةٍ لا مَاءٌ فيها. وتكون قوتهم كالهشيم وَعَمَلهُم كالشَرَارة فَيَحْتَرِقَانِ كِلاَهُمَا مَعاً وَلَيْسَ مَنْ يُطْفِئُ. ويكون في تلك الأَيَّامِ أَنَّ جَبَلَ بَيْتِ الرَّبِّ يَكُونُ ثَابِتاً فِي رَأْسِ الْجبلِ وَيَرْتَفِعُ فَوْقَ التِّلاَلِ وَتَنتظره جميع الأُمَمِ. وَتَنطلقُ شُعُوبٌ كَثِيرَةٌ وَيَقُولُونَ: "هَلُموا نَصْعَدْ إِلَى جَبَلِ الله إِلَى بَيْتِ إِلَهِ يَعْقُوبَ وَهو يُعَلِّمَنَا طُرُقِهِ فَنَسْلُكَ فِي شريعتهِ". مَجْدَاً لِلثَالُوث الأَقَدَسْ.

٨ : ٧ − ١٣

*Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Behold I will save my people from the land of the east, and from the land of the going down of the sun. And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God in truth and in justice. Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Let your hands be strengthened, you that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, in the day that the house of the Lord of hosts was founded, that the temple might be built. For before those days there was no hire for men, neither was there hire for beasts, neither was there peace to him that came in, nor to him that went out, because of the tribulation: and I let all men go every one against his neighbour. But now I will not deal with the remnant of this people according to the former days, saith the Lord of hosts. But there shall be the seed of peace: the vine shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew: and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things. And it shall come to pass, that as you were a curse among the Gentiles, O house of Juda, and house of Israel: so will I save you, and you shall be a blessing: fear not, let your hands be strengthened. Glory be to The Holy Trinity.

هَذَا ما يَقوله الله الضابط الكل: إني هَاءنَذَا أُخَلِّصُ شَعْبِي مِنْ أَرْضِ الْمَشْرِقِ وَمِنْ أَرْضِ مَغْرِبِ الشَّمْسِ وَآتِي بِهِمْ فَيَسْكُنُونَ فِي وَسَطِ أُورُشَلِيمَ وَيَكُونُونَ لِي شَعْباً وَأَنَا أَكُونُ لَهُمْ إِلَهاً بِالْحكم وَالْعدل. هَكَذَا قَما يَقوله الله الضابط الكل: فَلِتَتَشَدَّدْ أَيْدِيكُمْ أَيُّهَا السَّامِعُونَ فِي هَذِهِ الأَيَّامِ هَذَا الْكَلاَمَ مِنْ أَفْوَاهِ الأَنْبِيَاءِ. لأنه من يَوْمَ وُضِعَ أساسَ بَيْتُ الرَب الضابط الكل. ومن منذ بني الْهَيْكَلِ لأَنَّهُ قَبْلَ تلك الأَيَّامِ أُجْرَة الناس لَمْ تَكُنْ تشبعهم وَأجرة البهائم لا تكون. وَلاَ سَلاَمٌ لِمَنْ دَخَلَ أَوْ خَرَجَ مِنْ قِبَلِ (بِسَبَبِ) الضِّيقِ. وَأَرسل الناس كُلَّ واحد فواحد إلى صاحبهِ، أَمَّا الآنَ فَلاَ أَصنعُ بِبَقِيَّةِ شعْبي كَمثل الأَيَّام الأُولَى. قال الرَب الضابط الكل: بَلْ تظهر السَّلاَمة فَتُعْطِي الْكَرْمة ثَمَرَتها وَالأَرْضُ تُعْطِي غَلَّتَهَا وَالسَّمَاء تُعْطِي نَدَاهَا وَأُمَلِّكُ بَقِيَّةَ هَذَا لشعْبي هَذِهِ كُلَّهَا. وَيَكُونُ كَمَا أَنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ لَعْنَةً بَيْنَ الأُمَمِ يَا بَيْتَ يَهُوذَا وَيَا بَيْتَ إِسْرَائِيلَ كَذَلِكَ أُخَلِّصُكُمْ فَتَكُونُونَ بَرَكَةً فَلاَ تَخَافُوا وَلِتَتَشَدَّدْ أَيْدِيكُمْ. مَجْدَاً لِلثَالُوث الأَقَدَسْ.

*And it came to pass as he was sitting at meat in the house, behold many publicans and sinners came, and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. And the Pharisees seeing it, said to his disciples: Why doth your master eat with publicans and sinners? But Jesus hearing it, said: They that are in health need not a physician, but they that are ill. Go then and learn what this meaneth, I will have mercy and not sacrifice. For I am not come to call the just, but sinners. Then came to him the disciples of John, saying: Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but thy disciples do not fast? And Jesus said to them: Can the children of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then they shall fast. Glory be to God forever.

وَبَيْنَمَا هُوَ مُتَّكِئٌ فِي بَيْتِ سمعان إِذ جَاءَ وَخُطَاةٌ كَثِيرُونَ وَعَشَّارُونَ وَاتَّكَأُوا مَعَ يَسُوعَ وَتَلاَمِيذِهِ. فَلَمَّا نَظَرَ الْفَرِّيسِيُّونَ قَالُوا لِتَلاَمِيذِهِ: "لِمَاذَا مُعَلِّمُكُمْ يَأْكُلُ مَعَ الْعَشَّارِينَ وَالْخُطَاةِ؟" فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ يَسُوعُ قَالَ لَهُمْ: "لاَ يَحْتَاجُ الأَقويا إِلَى طَبِيبٍ بَلِ الْضعفاء فَاذْهَبُوا وَتَعَلَّمُوا مَا هُوَ. إِنِّي أُرِيدُ رَحْمَةً لاَ ذَبِيحَةً. لأَنِّي ما جئت لأَدْعُوَ الأَبْرَار بَلْ الخُطَاة إِلَى التَّوْبَةِ." حِينَئِذٍ أَتَى إِلَيْهِ تَلاَمِيذُ يُوحَنَّا قَائِلِينَ: "لِمَاذَا نَحْنُ وَالْفَرِّيسِيُّونَ نَصُومُ كَثِيراً وَتَلاَمِيذُكَ فَلاَ يَصُومُونَ؟" فَقَالَ لَهُمْ يَسُوعُ: "هَلْ يَسْتَطِيعُ بَنُو الْعُرْسِ أَنْ يَنُوحُوا مَا دَامَ الْعَرِيسُ مَعَهُمْ؟ وَلَكِنْ سَتَأْتِي أَيَّامٌ حِينَ يُرْفَعُ الْعَرِيسُ عَنْهُمْ فَحِينَئِذٍ يَصُومُونَ. وَالْمَجْدُ لِلَّهِ دَائِماً.

*What shall we say then? Is there injustice with God? God forbid. For he saith to Moses: I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy; and I will shew mercy to whom I will shew mercy. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. For the scripture saith to Pharao: To this purpose have I raised thee, that I may shew my power in thee, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth. Therefore he hath mercy on whom he will; and whom he will, he hardeneth. Thou wilt say therefore to me: Why doth he then find fault? for who resisteth his will? O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it: Why hast thou made me thus? Or hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump, to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath, fitted for destruction, That he might shew the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he hath prepared unto glory? Even us, whom also he hath called, nor only of the Jews, but also of the Gentiles. As in Osee he saith: I will call that which was not my people, my people; and her that was not beloved, beloved; and her that had not obtained mercy, one that hath obtained mercy. And it shall be, in the place where it was said unto them, You are not my people; there they shall be called the sons of the living God. And Isaias crieth out concerning Israel: If the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved. For he shall finish his word, and cut it short in justice; because a short word shall the Lord make upon the earth. And as Isaias foretold: Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been made as Sodom, and we had been like unto Gomorrha. The grace of God the Father be with you all. Amen.

لأَنَّهُ يَقُولُ لِمُوسَى: "إِنِّي أَرْحَمُ مَنْ أَرْحَمُ وَأَتَرَاءَفُ عَلَى مَنْ أَتَرَاءَفُ" فَإِذاً لَيْسَ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَلاَ لِمَنْ يَسْعَى بَلْ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي يَرْحَمُ لأَنَّهُ يَقُولُ الْكِتَابُ لِفِرْعَوْنَ: "إِنِّي لِهَذَا بِعَيْنِهِ أَقَمْتُكَ لِكَيْ أُظْهِرَ فِيكَ قُوَّتِي وَلِكَيْ يُنَادَى بِاسْمِي فِي كُلِّ الأَرْضِ" فَإِذاً هُوَ يَرْحَمُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيُقَسِّي مَنْ يَشَاءُ فَسَتَقُولُ لِي: "لِمَاذَا يَلُومُ بَعْدُ لأَنْ مَنْ يُقَاوِمُ مَشِيئَتَهُ؟" بَلْ مَنْ أَنْتَ أَيُّهَا الإِنْسَانُ الَّذِي تُجَاوِبُ اللهَ؟ أَلَعَلَّ الْجِبْلَةَ تَقُولُ لِجَابِلِهَا: "لِمَاذَا صَنَعْتَنِي هَكَذَا؟" أَمْ لَيْسَ لِلْخَزَّافِ سُلْطَانٌ عَلَى الطِّينِ أَنْ يَصْنَعَ مِنْ كُتْلَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ إِنَاءً لِلْكَرَامَةِ وَآخَرَ لِلْهَوَانِ؟ فَمَاذَا إِنْ كَانَ اللهُ وَهُوَ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُظْهِرَ غَضَبَهُ وَيُبَيِّنَ قُوَّتَهُ احْتَمَلَ بِأَنَاةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ آنِيَةَ غَضَبٍ مُهَيَّأَةً لِلْهَلاَكِ وَلِكَيْ يُبَيِّنَ غِنَى مَجْدِهِ عَلَى آنِيَةِ رَحْمَةٍ قَدْ سَبَقَ فَأَعَدَّهَا لِلْمَجْدِ الَّتِي أَيْضاً دَعَانَا نَحْنُ إِيَّاهَا لَيْسَ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ فَقَطْ بَلْ مِنَ الأُمَمِ أَيْضاً كَمَا يَقُولُ فِي هُوشَعَ أَيْضاً: "سَأَدْعُو الَّذِي لَيْسَ شَعْبِي شَعْبِي وَ الَّتِي لَيْسَتْ مَحْبُوبَةً مَحْبُوبَةً وَيَكُونُ فِي الْمَوْضِعِ الَّذِي قِيلَ لَهُمْ فِيهِ لَسْتُمْ شَعْبِي أَنَّهُ هُنَاكَ يُدْعَوْنَ أَبْنَاءَ اللهِ الْحَيِّ" وَإِشَعْيَاءُ يَصْرُخُ مِنْ جِهَةِ إِسْرَائِيلَ: "وَإِنْ كَانَ عَدَدُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ كَرَمْلِ الْبَحْرِ فَالْبَقِيَّةُ سَتَخْلُصُ لأَنَّهُ مُتَمِّمُ أَمْرٍ وَقَاضٍ بِالْبِرِّ. لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ يَصْنَعُ أَمْراً مَقْضِيّاً بِهِ عَلَى الأَرْضِ" وَكَمَا سَبَقَ إِشَعْيَاءُ فَقَالَ: "لَوْلاَ أَنَّ رَبَّ الْجُنُودِ أَبْقَى لَنَا نَسْلاً لَصِرْنَا مِثْلَ سَدُومَ وَشَابَهْنَا عَمُورَةَ" نعمةُ اللَّهِ الآبِ فَلْتَحِلَّ عَلَى أرواحِنا يا آبائي وإخْوَتي. آمين.

4:3-11

٤ : ٣ − ١١

*For the time past is sufficient to have fulfilled the will of the Gentiles, for them who have walked in riotousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and unlawful worshipping of idols. Wherein they think it strange, that you run not with them into the same confusion of riotousness, speaking evil of you. Who shall render account to him, who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For, for this cause was the gospel preached also to the dead: that they might be judged indeed according to men, in the flesh; but may live according to God, in the Spirit. But the end of all is at hand. Be prudent therefore, and watch in prayers. But before all things have a constant mutual charity among yourselves: for charity covereth a multitude of sins. Using hospitality one towards another, without murmuring, As every man hath received grace, ministering the same one to another: as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If any man speak, let him speak, as the words of God. If any man minister, let him do it, as of the power, which God administereth: that in all things God may be honoured through Jesus Christ: to whom is glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen. Do not love the world or the things in the world. The world passes away, and its desires; but he who does the will of God abides forever. Amen.

لأَنَّ زَمَانَ الْحَيَاةِ الَّذِي مَضَى يَكْفِينَا لِنَكُونَ قَدْ عَمِلْنَا إِرَادَةَ الأُمَمِ، سَالِكِينَ فِي الدَّعَارَةِ وَالشَّهَوَاتِ، وَإِدْمَانِ الْخَمْرِ، وَالْبَطَرِ، وَالْمُنَادَمَاتِ، وَعِبَادَةِ الأَوْثَانِ الْمُحَرَّمَةِ، الأَمْرُ الَّذِي فِيهِ يَسْتَغْرِبُونَ أَنَّكُمْ لَسْتُمْ تَرْكُضُونَ مَعَهُمْ إِلَى فَيْضِ هَذِهِ الْخَلاَعَةِ عَيْنِهَا، مُجَدِّفِينَ الَّذِينَ سَوْفَ يُعْطُونَ حِسَاباً للَّذِي هُوَ عَلَى اسْتِعْدَادٍ أَنْ يَدِينَ الأَحْيَاءَ وَالأَمْوَاتَ فَإِنَّهُ لأَجْلِ هَذَا بُشِّرَ الْمَوْتَى أَيْضاً، لِكَيْ يُدَانُوا حَسَبَ النَّاسِ بِالْجَسَدِ، وَلَكِنْ لِيَحْيُوا حَسَبَ اللهِ بِالرُّوحِ وَإِنَّمَا نِهَايَةُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِ اقْتَرَبَتْ، فَتَعَقَّلُوا وَاصْحُوا لِلصَّلَوَاتِ وَلَكِنْ قَبْلَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ لِتَكُنْ مَحَبَّتُكُمْ بَعْضِكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ شَدِيدَةً، لأَنَّ الْمَحَبَّةَ تَسْتُرُ كَثْرَةً مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كُونُوا مُضِيفِينَ بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضاً بِلاَ دَمْدَمَةٍ لِيَكُنْ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ بِحَسَبِ مَا أَخَذَ مَوْهِبَةً يَخْدِمُ بِهَا بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضاً، كَوُكَلاَءَ صَالِحِينَ عَلَى نِعْمَةِ اللهِ الْمُتَنَوِّعَةِ إِنْ كَانَ يَتَكَلَّمُ أَحَدٌ فَكَأَقْوَالِ اللهِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ يَخْدِمُ أَحَدٌ فَكَأَنَّهُ مِنْ قُوَّةٍ يَمْنَحُهَا اللهُ، لِكَيْ يَتَمَجَّدَ اللهُ فِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ بِيَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ، الَّذِي لَهُ الْمَجْدُ وَالسُّلْطَانُ إِلَى أَبَدِ الآبِدِينَ. آمِينَ لا تُحِبُّوا العَالَمَ ولا الأشْيَاءَ التي في العَالَمِ، لأنَّ العَالَمَ يمْضِي وَشَهْوَتُهُ مَعَهُ، وأمَّا مَنْ يَعملُ مَشِيئَةَ اللهِ فإنه يَثْبُتُ إلى الأبدِ. آمين.

*But one in the council rising up, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, respected by all the people, commanded the men to be put forth a little while. And he said to them: Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what you intend to do, as touching these men. For before these days rose up Theodas, affirming himself to be somebody, to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all that believed him were scattered, and brought to nothing. After this man, rose up Judas of Galilee, in the days of the enrolling, and drew away the people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as consented to him, were dispersed. And now, therefore, I say to you, refrain from these men, and let them alone; for if this council or this work be of men, it will come to nought; But if it be of God, you cannot overthrow it, lest perhaps you be found even to fight against God. And they consented to him. And calling in the apostles, after they had scourged them, they charged them that they should not speak at all in the name of Jesus; and they dismissed them. And they indeed went from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were accounted worthy to suffer reproach for the name of Jesus. And every day they ceased not in the temple, and from house to house, to teach and preach Christ Jesus. The word of the Lord shall grow, multiply, be mighty, and be confirmed, in the holy Church of God. Amen.

فَقَامَ فِي الْمَجْمَعِ رَجُلٌ فَرِّيسِيٌّ اسْمُهُ غَمَالاَئِيلُ مُعَلِّمٌ لِلنَّامُوسِ مُكَرَّمٌ عِنْدَ جَمِيعِ الشَّعْبِ وَأَمَرَ أَنْ يُخْرَجَ الرُّسُلُ قَلِيلاً ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُمْ: " أَيُّهَا الرِّجَالُ الإِسْرَائِيلِيُّونَ احْتَرِزُوا لأَنْفُسِكُمْ مِنْ جِهَةِ هَؤُلاَءِ النَّاسِ فِي مَا أَنْتُمْ مُزْمِعُونَ أَنْ تَفْعَلُوا لأَنَّهُ قَبْلَ هَذِهِ الأَيَّامِ قَامَ ثُودَاسُ قَائِلاً عَنْ نَفْسِهِ إِنَّهُ شَيْءٌ الَّذِي الْتَصَقَ بِهِ عَدَدٌ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ نَحْوُ أَرْبَعِمِئَةٍ الَّذِي قُتِلَ وَجَمِيعُ الَّذِينَ انْقَادُوا إِلَيْهِ تَبَدَّدُوا وَصَارُوا لاَ شَيْءَ بَعْدَ هَذَا قَامَ يَهُوذَا الْجَلِيلِيُّ فِي أَيَّامِ الاِكْتِتَابِ وَأَزَاغَ وَرَاءَهُ شَعْباً غَفِيراً. فَذَاكَ أَيْضاً هَلَكَ وَجَمِيعُ الَّذِينَ انْقَادُوا إِلَيْهِ تَشَتَّتُوا وَالآنَ أَقُولُ لَكُمْ: تَنَحَّوْا عَنْ هَؤُلاَءِ النَّاسِ وَاتْرُكُوهُمْ! لأَنَّهُ إِنْ كَانَ هَذَا الرَّأْيُ أَوْ هَذَا الْعَمَلُ مِنَ النَّاسِ فَسَوْفَ يَنْتَقِضُ وَإِنْ كَانَ مِنَ اللهِ فَلاَ تَقْدِرُونَ أَنْ تَنْقُضُوهُ لِئَلاَّ تُوجَدُوا مُحَارِبِينَ لِلَّهِ أَيْضاً" فَانْقَادُوا إِلَيْهِ. وَدَعُوا الرُّسُلَ وَجَلَدُوهُمْ وَأَوْصُوهُمْ أَنْ لاَ يَتَكَلَّمُوا بِاسْمِ يَسُوعَ ثُمَّ أَطْلَقُوهُمْ وَأَمَّا هُمْ فَذَهَبُوا فَرِحِينَ مِنْ أَمَامِ الْمَجْمَعِ لأَنَّهُمْ حُسِبُوا مُسْتَأْهِلِينَ أَنْ يُهَانُوا مِنْ أَجْلِ اسْمِهِ وَكَانُوا لاَ يَزَالُونَ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فِي الْهَيْكَلِ وَفِي الْبُيُوتِ مُعَلِّمِينَ وَمُبَشِّرِينَ بِيَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ لَمْ تَزَلْ كَلِمَةُ الرَّبِّ تَنْمُو وتَكْثُرُ وتَعْتَزُّ وتَثْبُتُ، في بِيعَةِ اللَّهِ الْمُقَدَّسَةِ. آمين.

*And Peter said to him: Lord, dost thou speak this parable to us, or likewise to all? And the Lord said: Who (thinkest thou) is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord setteth over his family, to give them their measure of wheat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom when his lord shall come, he shall find so doing. Verily I say to you, he will set him over all that he possesseth. But if that servant shall say in his heart: My lord is long a coming; and shall begin to strike the menservants and maidservants, and to eat and to drink and be drunk: The lord of that servant will come in the day that he hopeth not, and at the hour that he knoweth not, and shall separate him, and shall appoint him his portion with unbelievers. And that servant who knew the will of his lord, and prepared not himself, and did not according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. And unto whomsoever much is given, of him much shall be required: and to whom they have committed much, of him they will demand the more. I am come to cast fire on the earth; and what will I, but that it be kindled? And I have a baptism wherewith I am to be baptized: and how am I straitened until it be accomplished? Glory be to God forever.

فَقَالَ لَهُ بُطْرُسُ: "يَا رَبُّ أَلَنَا تَقُولُ هَذَا الْمَثَلَ أَمْ لِلْجَمِيعِ أَيْضاً؟" فَقَالَ الرَّبُّ: "فَمَنْ هُوَ الْوَكِيلُ الأَمِينُ الْحَكِيمُ الَّذِي يُقِيمُهُ سَيِّدُهُ عَلَى خَدَمِهِ لِيُعْطِيَهُمُ الْعُلُوفَةَ فِي حِينِهَا؟ طُوبَى لِذَلِكَ الْعَبْدِ الَّذِي إِذَا جَاءَ سَيِّدُهُ يَجِدُهُ يَفْعَلُ هَكَذَا! بِالْحَقِّ أَقُولُ لَكُمْ إِنَّهُ يُقِيمُهُ عَلَى جَمِيعِ أَمْوَالِهِ وَلَكِنْ إِنْ قَالَ ذَلِكَ الْعَبْدُ فِي قَلْبِهِ: سَيِّدِي يُبْطِئُ قُدُومَهُ فَيَبْتَدِئُ يَضْرِبُ الْغِلْمَانَ وَالْجَوَارِيَ وَيَأْكُلُ وَيَشْرَبُ وَيَسْكَرُ يَأْتِي سَيِّدُ ذَلِكَ الْعَبْدِ فِي يَوْمٍ لاَ يَنْتَظِرُهُ وَفِي سَاعَةٍ لاَ يَعْرِفُهَا فَيَقْطَعُهُ وَيَجْعَلُ نَصِيبَهُ مَعَ الْخَائِنِينَ وَأَمَّا ذَلِكَ الْعَبْدُ الَّذِي يَعْلَمُ إِرَادَةَ سَيِّدِهِ وَلاَ يَسْتَعِدُّ وَلاَ يَفْعَلُ بِحَسَبِ إِرَادَتِهِ فَيُضْرَبُ كَثِيراً وَلَكِنَّ الَّذِي لاَ يَعْلَمُ وَيَفْعَلُ مَا يَسْتَحِقُّ ضَرَبَاتٍ يُضْرَبُ قَلِيلاً. فَكُلُّ مَنْ أُعْطِيَ كَثِيراً يُطْلَبُ مِنْهُ كَثِيرٌ وَمَنْ يُودِعُونَهُ كَثِيراً يُطَالِبُونَهُ بِأَكْثَرَ "جِئْتُ لأُلْقِيَ نَاراً عَلَى الأَرْضِ فَمَاذَا أُرِيدُ لَوِ اضْطَرَمَتْ؟ وَلِي صِبْغَةٌ أَصْطَبِغُهَا وَكَيْفَ أَنْحَصِرُ حَتَّى تُكْمَلَ؟ وَالْمَجْدُ لِلَّهِ دَائِماً.
