١١ : ١١ − ١٩

*Amen I say to you, there hath not risen among them that are born of women a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is the lesser in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent bear it away. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John: And if you will receive it, he is Elias that is to come. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. But whereunto shall I esteem this generation to be like? It is like to children sitting in the market place. Who crying to their companions say: We have piped to you, and you have not danced: we have lamented, and you have not mourned. For John came neither eating nor drinking; and they say: He hath a devil. The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say: Behold a man that is a glutton and a wine drinker, a friend of publicans and sinners. And wisdom is justified by her children. Glory be to God forever.

الْحَقَّ أَقُولُ لَكُمْ: إنهُ لَمْ يَقُمْ أَحَدٌ بَيْنَ الْمَوْلُودِينَ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ أَعْظَمُ مِنْ يُوحَنَّا الْمَعْمَدَانِ، وَلكِنَّ الأَصْغَرَ في مَلَكُوتِ السَّمَوَاتِ أَعْظَمُ مِنْهُ. وَمِنْ أيامِ يُوحَنَّا الْمَعْمَدَانِ إلى الآنَ مَلَكُوتُ السَّمَوَاتِ يُغْصَبُ، وَالْغَاصِبُونَ يَخْتَطِفُونَهُ؛ لأنَّ جَمِيعَ الأنبِيَاءِ وَالنَّامُوسَ تَنَبَّأُوا إلى يُوحَنَّا. وَإنْ أَرَدْتُمْ أنْ تَقْبَلُوهُ، فَهُوَ إيلِيَّا الآتِي. مَنْ لَهُ أُذُنَانِ لِلسَّمْعِ فَلْيَسْمَعْ. وَبِمَنْ أُشَبِّهُ هَذَا الْجِيلَ؟ يُشْبِهُ أَوْلاَداً جَالِسِينَ في الأَسْوَاقِ يُنَادُونَ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضاً وَيَقُولُونَ: زَمَّرْنَا لَكُمْ فَلَمْ تَرْقُصُوا! نُحْنَا لَكُمْ فَلَمْ تَبْكُوا! لأنهُ جَاءَ يُوحَنَّا لا يَأْكُلُ وَلا يَشْرَبُ، فَقَالُوا: إنَّ بِهِ شَيْطَاناً. جَاءَ ابْنُ الإنْسَانِ يَأْكُلُ وَيَشْرَبُ، فَقَالُوا: هُوَذَا إنْسَانٌ أَكُولٌ وَشِرِّيبُ خَمْرٍ، مُحِبٌّ لِلْعَشَّارِينَ وَالْخُطَاةِ. وَالْحِكْمَةُ تَبَرَّرَتْ مِنْ أعْمَالِهَا. وَالْمَجْدُ لِلَّهِ دَائِماً.

*And when he was come into the temple, there came to him, as he was teaching, the chief priests and ancients of the people, saying: By what authority dost thou these things? and who hath given thee this authority? Jesus answering, said to them: I also will ask you one word, which if you shall tell me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men? But they thought within themselves, saying: If we shall say, from heaven, he will say to us: Why then did you not believe him? But if we shall say, from men, we are afraid of the multitude: for all held John as a prophet. And answering Jesus, they said: We know not. He also said to them: Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things. Glory be to God forever.

وَلَمَّا دَخَلَ الْهَيْكَلَ جَاءَ إلَيْهِ رُؤَسَاءُ الْكَهَنَةِ وَشُيُوخُ الشَّعْبِ بِيْنَمَا هُوَ يُعَلِّمُ، قَائِلِينَ: " بِأَيِّ سُلْطَانٍ تَفْعَلُ هَذَا؟ وَمَنْ الَّذِي أَعْطَاكَ هَذَا السُّلْطَانَ؟ ". فَأَجَابَ يَسُوعُ وَقَالَ لَهُمْ: " وَأَنا أَيْضاً أَسْأَلُكُم عَنْ كَلِمَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ، فَإنْ أَعْلَمْتُمُونِي عَنْهَا فَأَنا أيْضاً أُعْلِمُكُمْ بِأَيِّ سُلْطَانٍ فَعَلْتُ هَذَا: مَعْمُودِيَّةُ يُوحَنَّا مِنْ أيْنَ كَانَتْ؟ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ هِيَ أَمْ مِنَ النَّاسِ؟ ". فَأَمَّا هُمْ فَفَكَّرُوا في أَنْفُسِهِمْ قَائِلِينَ: " إنْ قُلْنَا: مِنَ السَّمَاءِ، يَقُولُ لَنَا: فَلِمَاذَا لَمْ تُؤْمِنُوا بِهِ؟ وَإنْ قُلْنَا: مِنَ النَّاسِ، نَخَافُ مِنَ الْجَمْعِ، لأنَّ يُوحَنَّا عِنْدَهُمْ مِثْلُ نَبِيٍّ ". فَأَجَابُوا وَقَالُوا لِيَسُوعَ: " لا نَعْلَمُ ". فَقَالَ لَهُمْ: " وَلاَ أَنا أيْضاً أُعْلِمُكُمْ بِأَيِّ سُلْطَانٍ فَعَلْتُ هَذَا ". وَالْمَجْدُ لِلَّهِ دَائِماً.

*I give thanks who hath strengthened me, even to Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he hath counted me faithful, putting me in the ministry; Who before was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and contumelious. But I obtained the mercy of God, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. Now the grace of our Lord hath abounded exceedingly with faith and love, which is in Christ Jesus. A faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into this world to save sinners, of whom I am the chief. But for this cause have I obtained mercy: that in me first Christ Jesus might shew forth all patience, for the information of them that shall believe in him unto life everlasting. Now to the king of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. This precept I commend to thee, O son Timothy; according to the prophecies going before on thee, that thou war in them a good warfare, Having faith and a good conscience, which some rejecting have made shipwreck concerning the faith. The grace of God the Father be with you all. Amen.

وَأَنا أَشْكُرُ الْمَسِيحَ يَسُوعَ رَبَّنَا الَّذِي قَوَّانِي، لأنهُ حَسِبَني أَمِيناً، إذْ جَعَلَنِي لِلْخِدْمَةِ، وَقَدْ كُنْتُ قَبْلاً مُجَدِّفاً وَمُضْطَهِداً وَشَتَّاماً. وَلكِنَّني رُحِمْتُ، لأني فَعَلْتُ ذلِكَ بِجَهْلٍ في عَدَمِ إيمَانٍ. وَقَدْ ازْدَادَتْ فيَّ نِعْمَةُ رَبِّنَا وَالإيمَانُ وَالْمَحَبَّةُ الَّتي في الْمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ. صَادِقَةٌ هِيَ الْكَلِمَةُ وَمُسْتَحِقَّةٌ أنْ نَقْبَلَهَا كُلَّ قَبُولٍ: أَنَّ الْمَسِيحَ يَسُوعَ جَاءَ إلى الْعَالَمِ لِيُخَلِّصَ الْخُطَاةَ الَّذِينَ أَوَّلُهُمْ أَنا. لكِنَّني لِهَذَا رُحِمْتُ: لِكَيْ يُظْهِرَ فيَّ أَوَّلاً يَسُوعُ الْمَسِيحُ كُلَّ أَناتِهِ، مِثَالاً لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِهِ لِلْحَيَاةِ الأَبدِيَّةِ. وَمَلِكُ الدُّهُورِ الَّذِي لا يَفْنَى وَلاَ يُرَى، وَحْدَهُ الإلهُ، لَهُ الْكَرَامَةُ وَالْمَجْدُ إلى دَهْرِ الدُّهُورِ. آمِينَ. هَذِهِ الْوَصِيَّةُ أَيهَا الابْنُ تِيمُوثَاوُسُ أَسْتَوْدِعُكَ إيَّاهَا حَسَبَ النُّبُوَّاتِ الَّتي سَبَقَتْ عَلَيْكَ، لِكَيْ تُمَنْطِقَ ذَاتَكَ بِهَا لِلْمُحَارَبَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ، وَلَكَ إيمَانٌ وَضَمِيرٌ صَالِحٌ. نعمةُ اللَّهِ الآبِ فَلْتَحِلَّ عَلَى أرواحِنا يا آبائي وإخْوَتي. آمين.

1:22-27

١ : ٢٢ − ٢٧

*But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if a man be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he shall be compared to a man beholding his own countenance in a glass. For he beheld himself, and went his way, and presently forgot what manner of man he was. But he that hath looked into the perfect law of liberty, and hath continued therein, not becoming a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work; this man shall be blessed in his deed. And if any man think himself to be religious, not bridling his tongue, but deceiving his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one's self unspotted from this world. Do not love the world or the things in the world. The world passes away, and its desires; but he who does the will of God abides forever. Amen.

كُونُوا عَامِلِينَ بِالْكَلِمَةِ، لاَ سَامِعِينَ فَقَطْ خَادِعِينَ نُفُوسَكُمْ وَحْدَكُمْ. لأنَّ مَنْ يَسْمَعُ الْكَلِمَةَ وَلا يَعْمَلُ بِهَا، فَهَذَا يُشْبِهُ رَجُلاً نَاظِراً وَجْهَ وِلادَتِهِ في مِرْآةٍ، فَإنَّهُ نَظَرَ ذَاتَهُ وَمَضَى، وَلِلْوَقْتِ نَسِيَ الْهَيْئَةَ الَّتي كَانَ فِيهَا. وَأَمَّا مَنْ تَطَّلَعَ في نَامُوسِ الْحُرِّيَّةِ الكَامِلِ وَثَبَتَ فِيهِ، وَصَارَ لَيْسَ سَامِعَاً نَاسِيَاً بَلْ مُمَارِسَاً لِلْعَمَلِ، فَهَذَا يَكُونُ مَغْبُوطاً فِيمَا يَعْمَلهُ. وَمَنْ يَظُنُّ في نَفْسِهِ أنهُ دَيِّنٌ، وَلاَ يُلْجِمُ لِسَانَهُ، بَلْ يَخْدَعُ قَلْبَهُ، فَعِبَادَةُ هَذَا بَاطِلَةٌ. وَأَمَّا الدِّيَانَةُ الطَّاهِرَةُ غَيْرُ الدَّنِسَةِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ الآبِ هِيَ هَذِهِ: افْتِقَادُ الْيَتَامَى وَالأَرَامِلِ في ضِيقَتِهِمْ، وَأَنْ يَحْفَظَ الإنْسَانُ نَفْسَهُ مِنَ الْعَالَمِ بِلاَ دَنَسٍ. لا تُحِبُّوا العَالَمَ ولا الأشْيَاءَ التي في العَالَمِ، لأنَّ العَالَمَ يمْضِي وَشَهْوَتُهُ مَعَهُ، وأمَّا مَنْ يَعملُ مَشِيئَةَ اللهِ فإنه يَثْبُتُ إلى الأبدِ. آمين.

*And when John was fulfilling his course, he said: I am not he, whom you think me to be: but behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose. Men, brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you fear God, to you the word of this salvation is sent. For they that inhabited Jerusalem, and the rulers thereof, not knowing him, nor the voices of the prophets, which are read every sabbath, judging him have fulfilled them. And finding no cause of death in him, they desired of Pilate, that they might kill him. And when they had fulfilled all things that were written of him, taking him down from the tree, they laid him in a sepulchre. But God raised him up from the dead the third day: Who was seen for many days, by them who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who to this present are his witnesses to the people. And we declare unto you, that the promise which was made to our fathers, This same God hath fulfilled to our children, raising up Jesus, as in the second psalm also is written: Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. The word of the Lord shall grow, multiply, be mighty, and be confirmed, in the holy Church of God. Amen.

وَلَمَّا أَكْمَلَ يُوحَنَّا سَعْيَهُ جَعَلَ يَقُولُ: مَنْ تَظُنُّونَ أني أَنا؟ لَسْتُ أَنا إياهُ، لكِنْ هُوَذَا يَأْتِي بَعْدِي الَّذِي لَسْتُ مُسْتَحِقَّاً أنْ أَحُلَّ حِذَاءَ قَدَمَيْهِ. أيهَا الرِّجَالُ إخْوَتُنَا بَنِي جِنْسِ إبْرَاهِيمَ، وَالَّذِينَ بَيْنَكُمْ يَتَّقُونَ اللَّهَ، إلَيْكُمْ أُرْسِلَتْ كَلِمَةُ هَذَا الْخَلاَصِ؛ لأنَّ السَّاكِنِينَ في أُورُشَلِيمَ وَرُؤَسَاءَهُمْ لَمْ يَعْرِفُوا هَذَا. وَأَقْوَالُ الأَنبِيَاءِ الَّتي تُقْرَأُ كُلَّ سَبْتٍ تَمَّمُوهَا، إذْ حَكَمُوا عَلَيْهِ. وَلَمَّا لَمْ يَجِدُوا فِيهِ عِلَّةً لِلْمَوْتِ طَلَبُوا مِنْ بِيلاَطُسَ أنْ يَقْتُلَهُ. وَلَمَّا أَكْمَلُوا كُلَّ مَا كُتِبَ عَنْهُ، أنْزَلُوهُ عَنِ الْخَشَبَةِ وَوَضَعُوهُ في قَبْرٍ. وَلكِنَّ اللَّهَ أَقَامَهُ مِنْ بَيْنِ الأَمْوَاتِ، هَذَا الَّذِي ظَهَرَ أياماً كَثِيرَةً لِلَّذِينَ صَعِدُوا مَعَهُ مِنَ الْجَلِيلِ إلى أُورُشَلِيمَ، هَؤُلاءِ الَّذِينَ هُمُ الآنَ شُهُودٌ لَهُ عِنْدَ كُلِّ الشَّعْبِ. وَنَحْنُ نُبَشِّرُكُمْ بِالْمَوْعِدِ الَّذِي صَارَ لآبائِنَا، إنَّ هَذَا قَدْ أَكْمَلَهُ اللَّهُ لأبْنَائِهِمْ، إذْ أَقَامَ يَسُوعَ كَمَا هُوَ مَكْتُوبٌ أَيْضاً في الْمَزْمُورِ الثَّانِي: أَنْتَ ابْنِي وَأَنا الْيَوْمَ وَلَدْتُكَ. لَمْ تَزَلْ كَلِمَةُ الرَّبِّ تَنْمُو وتَكْثُرُ وتَعْتَزُّ وتَثْبُتُ، في بِيعَةِ اللَّهِ الْمُقَدَّسَةِ. آمين.

But the Pharisees and the lawyers despised the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized by him. They are like to children sitting in the marketplace, and speaking one to another, and saying: We have piped to you, and you have not danced: we have mourned, and you have not wept. For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and you say: He hath a devil.
