with the Lord. Its flavor has been diffused in every home in
Egypt, and its fragrance has emanated in all the Eastern
world. Some Western persons loved him, cared to visit him,
and get to know more of his saintly life.
The famous writer "Leeder," heard about him from some
western Catholic people, and hastened with his wife to visit
Egypt, in order to meet the old saint, and the bishop of Fayoum.

How beautiful is the Church's choice! She chose this Book to be the prelude of the forty days of Lent! A beautiful story of repentance and fasting precedes the Great Lent by two weeks, that we may approach the holy forty days with a clean heart attached to the Lord.
It is remarkable that many of those who study the Book of Jonah concentrate on the people of Nineveh and their fast and overlook the mariners and Jonah with his problem.

 | Contemplations on the Sermon on the Mount

Some people say that the insights of the "Sermon on the
Mount" are the statutes and the regulations of Christianity
and we add that they are the highest instructions ever known to
man.
With these teachings, Our Lord Jesus Christ spoke to all
people. This proves that perfection can be offered to all human
beings and that everyone has, in his inmost soul, the readiness
to listen to these valuable instructions and highest principles, to
love them and be fully content in them, whatever obstacles meet
his will to listen.
It was fitting that these heavenly words should be
delivered from the top of a high mountain in order that the
audience, during their ascent, might elevate their souls to the
standard with which they would be able to understand such
instructions.

In Christian life, the effect of monasticism in relation to the church is like the role of the heart in relation to the body. It preserves life.
My dear reader, come with me and enter a wonderful, very colourful garden full of different flowers, of different colours, fragances and shapes. This garden is monastic life with all its magnificent saints.
Great work has been done by Mark Mikhael, a blessed young man from the Coptic Orthodox Church in Melbourne, Australia.

Therefore it finishes with happiness and rejoicing. It is a Psalm that we with everyone can learn and pray with it.

The Coptic Liturgies were translated into Latin long ago by
Renaudot, whose translation has been translated into English by
Dr. Neale, and reprinted by Mr. Hammond; and fresh translations
from the original language have been made by Mr. Malan.
But these works were executed without familiarity with the present
use, being based entirely upon medireval MSS., which seem
moreover to contain hardly anything but the parts read by
the Priest. The reader may easily convince himself by comparing
them with the form of the service here placed before
him, how very little they would enable him to follow the actual
usage.
